W1: Future Education 2060
Education is essential in today's society. People acquire new knowledge, enhance their critical thinking skills, and fulfill their needs through education. However, according to current education, almost every school still uses traditional teaching methods and processes to conduct the education. For example, all students must attend classes according to a school-provided schedule, and each student must sit for exams and submit assignments at a specific time. While this educational approach may produce some academically successful students, it fails to address the diverse needs, motivations, and abilities of students in this world.
Key Challenges:
One of the current challenges is the lack of personalization in education. Every student learns differently. Some students prefer hands-on learning to truly absorb knowledge, while others can learn simply by reading books, and so on. However, teachers cannot provide one-on-one tutoring for every student, leading to a lack of engagement in classroom learning, anxiety, and even dropping out of school for some students.
Future Vision:
Imagine education 30 to 40 years from now, where schools no longer teach according to traditional methods and processes, but rather through immersive learning experiences. Technology plays an important roles, not only helps student to improve their academic achievements, but also helps teacher to reduce their burden on teaching students. In this way, learning becomes lifelong, immersive, fun, and deeply connected to real-world experiences.
Creative Solutions:
Every student could have their own personal AI tutor that helps monitor their learning progress such as tutoring their daily homework. Other than that, they can help to identify strengths and limitations for that particular student to allow them to customize lesson in a way that easy for students to learn. This AI assistant can explain difficult concepts on that particular question in a more simpler terms that is easy for students to understand. Not only that, they can provide unlimited question for students to try , and also helps examine students ability by providing feedback for students to do references. This is exactly somehow human teachers cant do because they may not have that time to do for every student.
Why this matters?
It can help to address the issue of one-size-fits-all teaching method for teachers and also ensures that no student is disengaged on learning because of different level of students.
Implementation:
Schools would need to apply AI system into their learning platforms. Schools could provide training for teachers on using the AI as a supportive teaching tool in teaching students in a more understandable way.
2.VR-Based Immersive Classrooms
Virtual Reality (VR) can transform learning from passive reading to active exploration, especially for science class where students can conduct a 3D simulation experiments in classroom. Virtual Reality in education involves using immersive, computer-generated 3D environments that allow students to interact with and explore simulated experiences (Jackson, 2025).
Why this matters?
Using VR headsets or immersive screens, students can interact with learning materials in a more hands-on, engaging, and unforgettable way (Jackson, 2025).
Implementation:
Affordable VR devices must be developed for schools. Teachers should implement SOP on using the VR devices so that students can use it easily without ruining it.
This is a platform that allows students to learn from other student in different countries. For example, students from different countries can work together on shared projects, discuss homework, share knowledge, and interact with one another.
Why this matters?
It enhances students on cultural understanding from different countries, teamwork, and also cultivate communication skills.
Implementation:
Schools and governments could form international education networks where projects and resources are shared globally.
Reflection:
This vision was inspired by observing how current education often emphasize on traditional teaching methods such as following the school-provided schedule to conduct a lesson for students. Also, every students has different strengths and weaknesses to absorb knowledge based on current education methods. Imagining future education reminded me that learning can be excited and meaningful. This exercise help me understand that technology is essential in our lives, it can make education more inclusive for all learners.
